The broccoli is rolling in. We haven’t grown spring broccoli in the past because I was sure it would taste bitter and not produce well. I’ve never been happier to be proven wrong. Last year we tested out four varieties of broccoli to see which one would be the best for growing in the spring. Belstar was the winner and I think we made the right choice because it’s doing great this year. I am reminded of the importance of continuing to try new things. Good advice for life in general.
Speaking of new things, Randy and I were both excited to try out our new cultivators. These “spider gangs” (yes, that is really what they are called! sounds cool, right?) can be set at an angle to throw soil, as for hilling the potatoes, or adjusted to pull straight and disturb the soil surface to kill weeds. We hope this is going to make a big difference in keeping the pathways between crops cleaner.
