Farm Party and Potluck this Sunday!
This Sunday, October 25th, is our annual fall celebration. Join us at Tubby Creek Farm from 4pm-7pm for our Farm Party and Potluck. This is a free event and all our friends, neighbors, farmers market customers, CSA members are invited. We will be grilling hamburgers, hot dogs and vegan burgers, and have hot mulled cider and hot cocoa. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share! Walk the farm with Josephine and hear about our farming methods, then sit around the campfire and make s’mores with the kids. The farm is located at 1394 Gray Academy Road in Ashland, MS and is a one hour drive from Memphis. Please, no pets.
Summer is really over
This week one of my favorite annual events took place – The Mowing of the Okra. Okra season is officially over, and while a few summery crops are hanging on – like Juliet tomatoes and summer squash – we are squarely in fall. The hardest parts of the year are behind us. We are done planting, except for the garlic that will overwinter and produce next year. And we are done seeding in the greenhouse, except for the onions and leeks that grow slowly over the winter to be transplanted at the beginning of March. All that is left to do is some weeding and watering and a whole lot of harvesting and cleaning up. I was hoping the carrots would be ready this week, but they were still too small to dig. I’ll blame the lack of rain. October has given us no relief from the unusually dry weather.
Half Farm Shares will be available in 2027
Yes, we will be offering Half Farm Shares for our 2027 CSA. I forgot to mention this we shared the news about the new CSA model we are trying next year. These shares will get exactly half the volume of produce that the regular Farm Shares receive each week. If you get a small share now, the half share should a good fit for you next year.
Kohlrabi Soup
I made this German Kohlrabi Soup with Potatoes and it was so yummy that both Guin (my mom) and Connie (Randy’s mom) wanted the recipe. So I thought I’d share it with you, too. It was quick and simple. I served it with zucchini and squash fritters made with goat cheese.
