On Saturday night and Sunday morning we got over 5 inches of rain, ending the past three months of exceptionally dry weather. I feel like I can already see the difference in the vegetables growing in the field. The cover crop has grown visibly since the weekend. The pastures are greening up. And the pond once again has water. It made for a muddy, mucky harvest today and yesterday, but we are grateful for the rain.
Hopefully the rain kicks this cauliflower into gear. Some plants are starting to make heads. Last year the CSA got cauliflower the week of October 21st. I did the exact same thing this year as last. I planted the same varieties at the same time. And yet here we are two weeks later and no cauliflower yet. Every year is different which is both beautiful and occasionally infuriating.
