Late June, Already?!

Is it late June already?  Could someone press the pause button so we can please catch up?  Between a wet couple of months and being very short staffed, things are getting away from us.  We still have 80% of the carrots and potatoes left to dig.  And now the tomatoes are really starting to pour in.  We’ve been keeping up with the heirloom tomatoes.  But the field slicers need to be picked now, too.   It’s time to pick okra and eggplant.  And it all just keeps growing!  Which is, of course, a good thing.  We sure have plenty to do.  By the end of the week we will be done with the green beans and that will be a huge relief.

Especially at this time of the year, the majority of our time is spent harvesting.  Several years ago we did a time study and tracked all our hours, and were surprised to learn that over the course of the season, we spend about as much time harvesting and processing our crops as we do actually growing them!   Lets hope for some dry weather over the next couple of weeks so we can get all caught up.
