Culverts, Rain and Birds, Oh My!

Culverts, Rain and Birds, Oh My!

It has been HOT!  Leaving Memphis at 4 AM you just know it is going to be hot.  Then you get outside of the concrete and houses and the air cools off, mist rises and things just plain smell better.  Our morning started off by seeing the new culvert and house pad completed by yet another distant family member of the Wilson’s.  Things are really moving along and it looks like the trailer will be on site next Monday.

After looking at Timmy’s dozer work we could hear, well before seeing, the rain coming as it showered just across the street in the bean field.  It really was amazing to hear it approach as it came across the field.  It really cooled things off a bit in the early AM as I cut down old rose bushes and cleared fence line and Jo wacked down the Johnson grass along the road.

The coolness was short lived, and the humidity and heat rose.  As we finished up, Jo gave the front area, or as we call it the House area and House Garden North and house Garden south another mowing.  These fields will soon be used for our fall plantings of onions, leeks, garlic etc., so we are ready for next spring.

Overhead and zooming around low have been all kinds of birds.  I saw a brilliant blue or indigo bird zooming around.  After some research I am pretty positive it was an Indigo Buntin.  Then later in the morning, and much easier to identify we heard the call and saw flying above us a nice sized Red tailed hawk.

Finally we stopped by to see our old realtor Patrick Terrell and looked in on the work he is doing to the trailer we are buying from him.  To our surprise he had ready the house with a ramp and planned on us staying for lunch.  It was a real pleasure to sit with Phyllis, his wife and Pat for lunch. And air conditioning was great too.

Then it was home word bound. It gets hotter the closer to Memphis we get.   Soon, maybe not in the next week, but soon the trailer will be on site, livable and our weekend work trips will be much easier.

Till next time, Do-da-da-go-hv-i
