Winter Update And CSA Sign Up is Open!

Our 2025 CSA is now open to new members.  We would love to be your farmers this year.

Our seeds have all been ordered, and greenhouse work has begun.  We are busy preparing the high tunnel for onions.  Last year was the first time we grew onions in the tunnel and it was very

successful.  It was also the first time we grew an onion called Madalyn and I am in love.  We are also trying a small quantity of leeks this year, if it works out we will ramp that up, too.  There are always new things to try and try again, even though we’ve been doing this for thirteen years.  This spring we will be trialing four varieties of broccoli.  In the past I had given up on spring broccoli because I think the quality is poorer than fall broccoli.  But maybe I just haven’t found the right variety.  It’s worth a try!  I know broccoli is a popular crop.  It is popular in our household, too.

There is still a little snow and ice on the ground from the big snow.  Cooper had a blast having snowball fights then coming in to warm up with hot cocoa over and over again.  Willie, our newest dog, was also a big fan of the snow.   We had no detrimental effects from the winter storm, for which we are grateful.

Before the cold weather I did some wading in the pond and found Tiger Salamander egg masses again this year.  In addition to the

tigers – significant because this is the

only known population in the state – there are also plenty of spotted salamander egg masses and marbled salamander larva.   I found a spotted salamander adult under a board I had placed on the edge of the pond for that purpose.  But it seems I has actually I little late to see any tigers.  I’ll have to get out there earlier next year!
