The Rain has Stopped, for Now

The Rain has Stopped, for Now

The rain has stopped (at least for now), the heat has arrived, and we are barreling full steam ahead.  There is so much to harvest.  On Monday we dug the red potatoes.  It was a huge relief to find them in good shape after sitting in the wet ground for ages.  It took most of the morning to get them all picked up.  Today we dug a bed of carrots – also in better shape than I expected, and then on to tomatoes!  So many tomatoes!   In addition to the heirloom tomatoes in the high tunnel, the Juliet plum and cherry tomatoes are all ready for picking.  The okra has started to produce too but I’m not ready for that one yet so it will have to wait.  How am I supposed to get any other work done when there is just so much to harvest?

Don’t get Randy started on all the tractor work he needs to catch up on!  He got the cover crop mowed down, and as soon as he can he’ll be making beds for the watermelon and cantaloupe that are waiting not too patiently to be planted.  Hopefully we’ll get all caught up soon, then we will be able to catch our breath.  But I

have a feeling we wont be catching a break for another couple of months.  That’s just summertime on the farm!
