The sweet potatoes are here!  Last Thursday I drove down to Houston Mississippi to get a bin of newly harvested sweet potatoes from organic sweet potato farmer Caleb Englert.  We would have loved to have grown our own sweet potatoes this year, but it was so wet this spring that we weren’t able to get them in on time.   We are grateful to have farmers like Caleb growing organic sweet potatoes in Mississippi.  We have already sampled them and they are delicious.  We will not be able to offer them at the farmers market, however, since they are not grown on our farm.

If you are wondering what to do with your fennel tops, I have some suggestions!  Perhaps the most obvious is to make pesto.  I don’t have a specific recipe to recommend and there are quite a lot of them out there.  If you are going to make fennel soup (it is soup season after all) you can put them right into the soup – save some to garnish as the end.  We had a customer who was wild about fennel frond fritters.  I haven’t tried it but I found this recipe online.   Fennel fronds are also used to make salad dressings, either vinaigrette or creamy, or a cooling raita.  Do you have another idea for your fennel fronds?  I’d love to hear about it!

The last day of the 2025 CSA for Wednesday members is 11/12, and for Saturday members 11/15!  We have already had some folks asking about next year.  We plan to have 2026 CSA shares available to purchase through our website in January.  Current members will have two weeks to sign up in early January before we open for new members.  If you get this email, you will be getting an email when the CSA is open!
