Tubby Creek Farm is operated by husband and wife team, Josephine and Randy Alexander. Josephine was raised on asparagus, corn and carrots from her mother’s garden as a child growing up in Maine, not to mention the blackberries, blueberries and fiddleheads foraged from the woods and fields.
In college in St. Paul, Minnesota, Josephine found community gardening as a way to reconnect with her semi-rural roots. Upon graduation, she spent two years in the upper Midwest working on organic fruit and vegetables CSA’s before finding her way to Memphis to become coordinator for GrowMemphis for three years. When Josephine met Randy, she found not only a partner in love and life but someone with whom she could share her dream of community farming.
Although Randy had little farming and gardening experience when he met Josephine, he took to it like a pig to mud! It must be in his blood, after all, his ancestors had settled in Kansas and they brought with them Turkey Red winter wheat. This original Red Wheat was the foundation to the wheat grown today.
