Today Kim, Raquel and Josephine participated in a sweat study. Researchers from the Department of Kinesiology at Mississippi State University are interested in understanding more about how farmers and farm workers in Mississippi respond to the stress of working in the heat. They were here today collecting data as we went about our workday. We wore heart rate monitors, weighed everything we ate and drank, and gave sweat samples, for example. It was fun and interesting to have them here today.
Just in time for our researchers, it was hot. The weather station they brought with them showed that just before our lunch break it was 70% humidity with a relative temperature of 39C/102F
