Yesterday we got some rain! Seven tenths of an inch. Enough to make puddles on the ground. Enough to water the crops. We could use a lot more, but we are grateful to have gotten some.
This week’s box is brought to you in part by the best looking squash planting I have ever grown. The plants look gorgeous and they are producing a

lot of squash. Everyone is getting two pounds in their box this week and we still have more to sell at our markets.
Remember in the spring how we had the biggest weed problem ever because the millet from last year’s cover crop had gone to seed before we mowed it down? Well, it’s back! Making the fall beds must have dredged up a whole lot more millet seeds because we are facing the same problem we had in the spring. We are spending so much time weeding. We are chipping away at it little by little, trying to get it out before it goes to seed again. Nothing is worse than a problem of your own making. We are reaping what we sowed in the most literal way possible.
I will be bringing native plants to the Cooper Young Community Farmers market from now through the fall. Because we don’t have loads of produce to sell right now, that means I have space in the van to bring more plants! This Saturday I will have fourteen species of perennial plants native to the mid south.
