First Fall CSA

Dry, dry, dry! We are still waiting for rain on these spring beds

It’s the first week of the Fall CSA!  We are looking forward to another season of abundance.  Many crops are planted, and we are keeping everything watered as best we can.  It will be a while before fall crops like carrots and broccoli are ready.  For now we are still enjoying some more summery things like squash and okra.  We do have more tomatoes planted but they are feeling the effects of a difficult summer.    It’s still dry as dust out here, despite the few sprinkles we had today.  The sun is out now and it’s like it never happened.  All of August was without rain.  Let’s hope for a change in this weather pattern with the arrival of meteorological fall.  I will definitely be dancing in the rain when it comes.

Last week Cooper and I took a trip to Wilmington, North Carolina to visit my dad.  We spent lots of time in the water, both at the beach and the pool.  I am grateful to Randy and our staff for keeping things on the farm rolling along while I play hooky.  It is a real gift to be able to leave for several days during the growing season.
