What a week it has been. I am sure many of you have also been watching and waiting and hoping and fearing as election results continue to come in. At times like this I am grateful to have meaningful work. Nothing clears the mind like working with your hands. There is always work that needs to be done
when I need a distraction. And when I don’t need a distraction, there is still work!
Uncertainty is nothing new this year. I can’t wait until the weather is the major cause of our uncertainly once again. Despite all the uncertainty, we have been fortunate. We still have a CSA. We still have a Farmers Market. People are still buying our products and we have been able to keep growing vegetables.
Growing food is a million small acts of faith. We plant a seed, assuming it will sprout. And that we and the world will still be around 38 or 120 days later to harvest, share, and enjoy that food. We recently tucked little strawberry plants into the ground, assuming that come spring we and the world will still be here. We plants trees that wont produce for years. We invest in building our soil that will sustain us for years and years to come. And what else can we do but hope in the future?
I’m not ready to celebrate the closing of another year yet, despite the fact that our 2020 CSA season is nearly over. It feels as though there are centuries between here and the end of the calendar year. Luckily for me, there will be plenty of work between now and then to keep my hands busy and my mind on the level.
It is been and unusual and unexpected year. Thank you for making it possible for us to be farmers. I love what I do. The satisfaction of producing something tangible is unparalleled. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without our wonderful CSA members and farmers market customers.
