End of October

End of October

We had a great time at our Fall Farm Party on Sunday!  Many thanks to all the intrepid attendees.  The weather wasn’t perfect but we still had fun.   The farm tour got cut short, but the campfire blazed on through the intermittent rainfall.  The kids enjoyed running around in the rain, stomping in the mud, and roasting marshmallows for s’mores.  And as usual, the food was delicious!  It was good to see old friends and meet some new friends, too.

The season is finally winding down as we ease into cooler temperatures.  And thank goodness, we have our hands pretty full just keeping up with harvesting.  The carrots are ready to be dug, and we have a big job ahead of us getting them out of the ground.  Especially if the rain keeps up.  It’s sloppy work, but it sure is worth it for that real carrot taste.   Thursday night promises the first frost of the season.  That will be the end of eggplant and peppers, we are harvesting the last of them today.

The final couple weeks of the CSA should include, among other things, bok choy, fennel, sweet potatoes, and watermelon radishes.  You may or may not be disappointed to learn that the rutabagas will not be ready in time.   Even though the CSA is almost over, we will continue to go to the Cooper Young Farmers Market each week through January.  Or until we run out of carrots!
