We started Tubby Creek Farm in 2012 with just 15 CSA members. Oh, how we’ve grown! We now pack 100 CSA shares each week in addition to attending a bustling farmers market every Saturday. We have outgrown our wash-pack and cold storage facility and we are putting in a larger building. You can help us finance this project by purchasing a Building Our Future multi-year CSA membership.
From the very beginning, Community Supported Agriculture has been an important part of what we do. We are first and foremost CSA farmers. But over the past eight years, we haven’t just grown the CSA. Our farmers market sales have tripled, local sales are growing, and we have even increased our wholesale marketing.
Can you believe we are still doing all that in the same open-air washing and packing facility that we built in our first year? We are still using our original cool room, too. When harvest is at its peak, packing vegetables into cold storage has become a juggling act.
Our goal is to be in our new building when we start the 2020 CSA season in April. Work to prepare the site is well underway. To realize our goal, we need money. The whole project will cost around $60,000. We have $40,000 available to put towards the project, but need help getting across the finish line. Current CSA Members have the opportunity to pitch in by purchasing and paying in advance for a 3, 5 or 10 year Building Our Future CSA Membership.
The Building
With an enclosed area of 1,500 square feet, our new facility will include walk-in cool rooms, a kitchenette, a bathroom, and plenty of workspace to clean and pack our vegetables as they come out of the field. Over the past eight years we have learned a lot about post-harvest handling and storage. Three separate walk-in cool rooms will allow us to store different types of vegetables at the correct temperatures. Not only will we be able to harvest more produce, but improve the quality of our products as well.
Building Our Future CSAs
We value and appreciate all our CSA Members, and we look forward to building our relationships with you for years to come. This new building will help make that possible. For those Members who are in a financial position to do so, we are offering a limited number of 3, 5 and 10 year CSA shares to help finance this project. Like our current CSA, the season will run for 31 weeks each year from late April through the week before Thanksgiving.
In addition to knowing exactly where your weekly vegetables are coming from for the next 3-10 years, Building Our Future Members will;
• Receive an invitation to join us for an exclusive Farm Dinner in our new building once it is completed
• Lock in our current CSA prices, even if prices go up in the future, and
• Receive seasonal fruits such as blueberries and blackberries, and other bonus items not included in our standard CSA share
Weekly prices are the same as our standard CSA: the Full Share is $25 a week and the Small Share $18 a week. You will receive a discount equivalent to one week free each year. Multi-year prices are as follows:
Building Our Future CSA Full Share
3-year $2250
5-year $3750
10-year $7500
Building Our Future CSA Small Share
3-year $1674
5-year $2790
10-year $5580
How to Buy a Building Our Future CSA
Building Our Future CSA Memberships are available for purchase now. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Randy by email at randy@tubbycreekfarm.com or call or text 901-359-4982. Standard 2020 CSA Memberships will be available for purchase in January.
Please know that the support of ALL our CSA members and customers is important and contributes to the success and future sustainability of our farm. Whether you pay for your CSA in advance or monthly, you keep our farm running. Sometimes we need cash in hand to pay for big projects, and sometimes we need that weekly cash flow that comes from many smaller sales. We know that not everyone is in a position to buy their vegetables years in advance. If you are able, we hope you will consider making this commitment to the future of Tubby Creek Farm. In whatever way you can support our farm and our livelihoods, we thank you.
Sincerely,
Randy & Josephine
