Big Time July Heat

Big Time July Heat

The heat has rendered by brain into jello, making it a bit hard to focus on writing this newsletter.  It is the hottest day of the year so far.  But thankfully we are close enough to making it through July for me to proclaim that we’ve made it through July!  Farming in the heat is not fun or easy.  We do what we can to  make it bearable for ourselves and our workers.  We try to get anything physically demanding done as early in the day as possible.  We take more breaks.  We check in with each other.  And we get out of the field early.  Most days end at noon, which means some things just don’t get done.  Which brings me to the most important thing we do when it is dangerously hot: we let things go.  We grow vegetables.  And while that is important work, it’s not life and death.  Nothing we do is as important as the health and safety of the people working on the farm.  Sometimes you just have to let things go.
