Today we harvested and packed the very first vegetables that our field had to offer this year. Hooray for a new season just beginning! Right now there are a lot of leafy greens. This week the boxes include baby komatsuna. A Brassica rapa, komatsuna’s closest relatives in the garden are turnips, bok choy, and napa cabbage. The thick leaves make a great addition to salads, but is also perfect for a quick stir fry or saute.
The rest of the vegetable in the box should be more familiar to you. We have started picking the first few strawberries, so hopefully you will see them in your share soon. A few lucky ducks will get some this week. Other upcoming veggies include kale and collards, kohlrabi, and bok choy.
If you are picking up your box on the farm, at the farmers market, or one of our pick-up locations, please try to bring bags with you. That way you can simply unpack your reusable box and leave it behind. Members getting home delivery will need to hang on to their box until the following week, so that your delivery driver can pick it up when they deliver your next box.
