Sunday we woke up at three so we could be out at the farm by day break. It was a cool foggy morning which was great for doing work. There is a fence dividing the front property that we want to clear out so we started in at the task at hand. There was lots of junk trees, sumac, sweet gum and of course good ole Poison Ivy. Surprisingly we also found several wild rose bushes we decided to leave in place for now.
In the middle of our morning Wayne, the nephew of the original property owners came by to do some bush hogging for us up in the sections where the house and first fields will go. Wow did the make a difference. No more so, than where we intended to put the trailer. After he was done there was even more room than we had planned. We have enough room to have the trailer sit even further back in the shade. Not only will that help keep us cooler but leaves more space for other things.
Now that it has been bush hogged, it is much easier for me to get around to do some work. I’m still amazed at times how well this chair does in those conditions. Even though we worked from 5 am till 10:30 we did accomplish quite a bit of work. Probably even more important than the fence and tree removing, now that the tall grasses has been cut we can really see what we have to work with and can plan accordingly.
We will be starting to clear some ground and get ready to plant some beneficial cover crops real soon. Obviously there is more work than time but despite the heat I’m looking forward to it every week . I can’t wait for the heat to break and work some good long days. Hopefully we can recruit some friends to help out. There is more than enough work.
