Internship Opportunities

2017 Internships

Located on 70 acres in Ashland, Mississippi, we grow over 30 different types of vegetables using natural, synthetic-chemical free growing methods.  We also pasture raise laying hens, broiler chickens, meat goats and pigs.  We distribute our products through a 65 members CSA and at one to two weekly farmers markets.

Intern(s) will receive hands-on experience with
•    Pasture-raised and rotationally grazed meat goats, hogs, laying hens, and broiler chickens. 
•    Field preparation, propagation and cultivation of various vegetable crops
•    Fertility management and cover cropping
•    Harvest and post-harvest handling of vegetable crops
•    Various farm tools and equipment
•    Greenhouse and high tunnel production
•    Natural pest management strategies
•    Life on a working, financial sustainable farm

HOUSING: intern sleeping quarters will be provided in our insulated, heated and air-conditioned bunkhouse.  Intern(s) have access to farmhouse for bathroom and kitchen use.

MEALS: Farmers and intern(s) eat lunch and dinner together.  Interns are expected to share in meal preparation and clean-up responsibilities.  The farm will provide fresh produce, meat, and a stocked pantry.  Interns prepare their own breakfast.

HOURS:  Part-time interns are expected to work 15 to 20 hours a week.  Full-time interns are expected to work 40 to 50 hours per week.  Interns work when the farmers work, specific hours vary according to the time of the year.  Full-time interns are given one full day off per week.

DURATION:  internships are available from April through October with a two month minimum commitment.

STIPEND:  Part-time interns receive a $50 weekly stipend, full-time interns receive a $100 weekly stipend.  Negotiable based on experience.  Interns staying on for the full season from April through November will receive an end of season bonus.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age or more.  Prospective interns should be interested in a career in sustainable agriculture and be willing for work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
